Niccolò di Piero Lamberti

1370-1451 Italy/Early Renaissance

 

Brief Biography-Niccolò di Piero Lamberti was a Florentine sculptor and architect born in 1370. He worked on the Porta della Mandorla of the Duomo Cathedral, but his most famous sculpture is the statue of Saint Mark for the Cathedral. His statue of Saint James fills a niche at the church of Or San Michele. Lamberti moved to Venice in c. 1416 with his son and student Piero di Niccolò Lamberti where he worked on the statue of Saint Mark Blessing at Saint Mark’s Basilica. He spent time in Bologna before returning to Florence.
