Brief Biography-Joseph Légaré was born in Quebec City, Canada, in 1795. He was a largely self-taught painter of religious works, landscapes, and American Indians. Légaré was an active politician for most of his life and acquired a considerable art collection housed in art galleries he opened in Quebec.
