Nikolaos Lytras

Νικόλαος Λύτρας

1883-1927 Greece/Expressionist

 

Brief Biography-Nikolaos Lytras was taught at the School of Fine Arts, Athens, by his father, Nikiforos and Georgios Jakobides. Next, he went to the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where the Blaue Reiter expressionist group influenced him. After Munich, he participated in the Balkan Wars, from which he drew much inspiration. He became a founder of the Art Group after the war, which was a success in Greece. In 1923, he managed the Athens School of Fine Arts, a post he held for the remainder of his life.
