Estéban March
c. 1610-1668 Spain/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Born in Valencia, Estéban March was a pupil of Pedro Orrente of Murcia. In the view of Antonio Palomino, he had a Touch of Lunacy. He was, however, a superb painter of battles, and for artistic stimulation, he would dress in the attire of a knight in battle. Then, with the accompaniment of military trumpets and drums, he would lay siege to the walls of his studio before addressing his canvas. His most well-known work is The Lord’s Supper in San Juan de Mercado church. There is evidence the Italian artists Salvator Rosa and Aniello Falcone may have influenced him. |
