Horatio McCulloch

1805-1867 Scotland/Romanticism

 

Brief Biography-Horatio McCulloch was born in Glasgow in 1805. He studied under the artist John Knox, a landscape artist. In 1825, he went to Edinburgh and eventually became an Academician at the Royal Scottish Academy. McCulloch went on trips to sketch the West Highlands and painted in his studio. He also painted scenes of Edinburgh and was a fervent exhibitor at the Academy. He settled on the isle of Bute in 1841 and died in Edinburgh in 1867.
