Francisco Meneses Osorio
16330/40-1721/25 Spain/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Francisco Meneses Osorio, a disciple of Murillo, was born in Seville, where he lived his whole life. He followed Murillo’s paintings closely, and his images were confused with his master’s. Although the churches of Seville house many pieces, the most notable is a retable in the Capuchin Church, Cádiz, begun by Murillo and completed by Meneses Osorio after his master’s death. He worked with Juan Garzon, another scholar of Murillo, and later became the Seville Academy’s President. There are varying accounts of his birth and death dates in Seville; a few books state he flourished in 1725. The most probable date of death is 1721. |
