Peter Monamy

1681-1749 England/Marine Artist

 

Brief Biography-Peter Monamy was born in Jersey in 1681. In London as a teenager, he was an apprentice house painter on London Bridge. He began drawing and painting views of the Thames and finished his apprenticeship at the same time as his contemporary James Thornhill in 1704. Willem Van de Velde the Younger was his primary influence. His paintings are in the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Ireland, and other coastal locations in England. His works became highly regarded in his time.
