John George Mulvany

1766-1838 Ireland-Landscape Artist

 

Brief Biography-John George Mulvany was born in Dublin, c. 1766. He studied at the Dublin Society Schools and was one of the first fourteen members of the Royal Hibernian Society in 1821. He was a landscape painter and painted genre scenes also, which were mostly of cottage interiors. His most noted landscape is Medieval Street in Kilmallock. His younger brother Thomas James Mulvany was also a successful painter and founder of the Academy. He died at his home in Richmond Street, Dublin, in 1838.
