Aert van der Neer
c. 1603-1677 Netherlands/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Aert van der Neer was born c. 1603 in Gorinchem. He was a painter of canals and winter scenes, not unlike Hendrick Avercamp and Esaias van de Velde; however, his works never sold well during his lifetime. Aelbert Cuyp collaborated with him on some of his paintings. Unfortunately, they were usually at most five guilders each, and he failed in the business of wine tapping and lived a life of relative poverty after that. His sons Eglon and Jan also became painters, Eglon being the most successful. |
