Brief Biography-Eglon van der Neer, born in 1634 in Amsterdam, was first tutored by his father, Aert and later by Jacob van Loo. His works are mostly genre scenes after Gabriël Metsu and Gerard Terborch. He also painted landscapes with mythological characters in the manner of Adam Elsheimer. He became a court painter to Charles II of Spain in 1689 and eventually settled in Düsseldorf as a painter to Johann Wilhelm, the Elector Palatine. Adriaen van der Werff was one of his notable students. |
