Brief Biography-Henry Nelson O’Neill was born in Saint Petersburg in 1817 and went to England in 1823. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools in 1836 and became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1860, where he exhibited numerous paintings. He was a painter of historical genre works and was associated with the Clique group of artists opposed to the Pre-Raphaelites and openly admonished their pictures. His most famous images are of troops departing to and from India, The Last Moments of Mozart, and Raphael's Last Moments. |
