Brief Biography-Pedro Orrente was born in Montealegre, Murcia. He was an imitator of Jacopo Bassano, whose works arrived in Spain in great numbers; however, he was a disciple of El Greco at one stage. He painted pictures for the Buen Retiro Palace under the patronage of the Duke of Olivarez. His paintings are plentiful and hang throughout the cities of Spain, including Valencia, Toledo, and Cordova. In Seville, he became acquainted with Francisco Pacheco, who praised his performances greatly. He died in Toledo, and his remains lie in the same church as his master. |
