Adriaen Jansz van Ostade

Brief Biography-Adriaen Jansz van Ostade was born in Haarlem in 1610. He was a disciple of Frans Hals and came under the influence of Joost Cornelisz Droochsloot. Ostade was an engraver and prolific painter of genre scenes. He was a contemporary of Adriaen Brouwer, who also inspired his work. The Guild of Saint Luke admitted him in 1634, and he began teaching at his workshop in Haarlem. Apart from his brother Isaac, Jan Steen, Cornelis Bega, and Cornelis Dusart were amongst his most renowned students. He is said to have produced well over a thousand pictures. |
