|
Brief Biography-Antônio Parreiras was born near Rio de Janeiro in 1860, where he attended the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes in 1882. However, after only two years in Academia, he became mainly self-taught. A painting sale to Pedro II enabled him to study in Venice; back home, he set up the Open-Air School, emphasising en plein air style. He also worked in Paris and was a Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts member. Parreiras was Brazil’s leading artist in his day. |
