Arthur Quartley

Brief Biography-Arthur Quartley was born in France, and when the family moved to America, he began tuition with his father, Fredrick, who was a partner in the decorating firm of Emmart and Quartley in Baltimore. He went to New York in 1875, where he painted several seascapes and became a founder of the Tilers group of painters. The group included Winslow Homer. The National Academy admitted him in 1876. He subsequently visited Europe in c. 1880 and painted in England, Holland, and Italy. Several Academies in America exhibited his works during his lifetime. |
