Carl Rahl

1812-1865 Austria/History-Portraiture

 

Brief Biography-Carl Rahl was born in Vienna in 1812. A prize for his painting David in the Cave of Adullam in the academy allowed him to study in Rome, where he remained for seven years. After his return to Vienna, Rahl travelled Europe extensively doing portraiture. In addition, he opened a large studio in Vienna, teaching numerous disciples. Rahl decorated many buildings in Vienna, his most notable being the Fleischmarkt Greek Church and the Greek-Austrian banker Simon von Sina’s palace interior. He died in Vienna in 1865.
