Anton Romako

1832-1889 Austria/Realism

 

Brief Biography-Anton Romako was born in Vienna in 1832. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and later privately with Carl Rahl. He then went to Spain and Italy and spent most of his time in Rome, having considerable success with genre scenes. He also did portraiture in London for a brief period in 1873. He visited Paris in 1878, after which he retired to Vienna, and in 1882, he received the Legion of Honour. Anton Romako sadly died in relative poverty in 1889.
