Brief Biography-George William Russell was born in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, in 1867. He was, first and foremost, a writer and editor. His family moved to Dublin when George was eleven. He studied at the Metropolitan School of Art and the Royal Hibernian Academy Schools and lived at Ely Place with the Theosophical Society. Russell worked with the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society for many years. He was also an important literary figure regarding Irish Nationalism and became associated with other literary figures such as James Joyce. Many of his paintings are of theosophical and mystic content. He died in Bournemouth in 1935. |
