Hans Sandreuter

1850-1901 Switzerland/Symbolism

Brief Biography-Hans Sandreuter was born in Basel in 1850. He studied in Italy, followed by the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Sandreuter became a close friend of Arnold Böcklin, and he associated with Wilhelm von Kaulbach. He primarily worked out of his Basel studio doing murals. Böcklin strongly influenced him to the extent that he considered him a plagiarist. However, his able talents are evident in his paintings and murals.
