Brief Biography-Karl Friedrich Schinkel was from the town of Neuruppin, Germany. He was a painter, architect and set designer. Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute set backdrop was his best-known piece. His paintings reflect the architect within him, some of which contain majestic cathedrals set in romantic landscapes. However, the works of Caspar David Friedrich had a strong influence on him. Most of his architectural work was in Berlin, and his famous Kreuzberg Monument still stands today. In addition, he was the designer of the German Iron Cross. One of his better-known students was Karl Friedrich Lessing. |
