Brief Biography-Ivan Fyodorovich Seleznyov, born in Kyiv, studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg and won a stipend to spend three years studying in Rome. He taught at Kyiv drawing schools, became the Kyiv Art College director in 1911, and was a co-founder of the Kyiv Fellowship of Religious Painting. One of his most noted students was Boris Vladimirski. There is a splendid affinity between his In Pompeii and the neo-classical works of Alma-Tadema. |
