Brief Biography-Domingos António de Sequeira was born in Lisbon. He showed his artistic abilities when young and soon entered the Lisbon Academy. In 1788, Domingos moved to Rome to study under Antonio Cavallucci; there, becoming a member of the Academy of Saint Luke. His success in Rome gained him numerous commissions on his return to Portugal, which led to royal patronage. In addition, he did lithography in Paris during his career. As head of the Portuguese Academy, he dedicated his time to religious works in Rome, where he died in 1837. The National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon houses many of his works. |
