Józef Simmler

1823-1868 Poland/Classicism

 

Brief Biography-Józef Simmler was born in Warsaw in 1823. He was a portraitist and painter of historical scenes and painted allegorical and religious works. In Germany, he studied in Dresden and at the Munich Academy, and in 1847 he spent time in Paris. On his return to Warsaw, where he got married, Simmler achieved great success with his portraits of nobility. In 1860, he became a member of the Fine Arts Society. Simmler died of typhus in Warsaw in 1868.
