Franciszek Smuglewicz

1745-1807 Poland-Lithuania/Classicism

 

Brief Biography-Franciszek Smuglewicz was born in Warsaw in 1745. He learned the classical style in Rome, where he spent two decades from 1763. Noted for historical works, the Academy of Saint Luke admitted him, and he later founded the Vilnius School of Art. He became a professor of painting at Vilnius University, a position succeeded by his student Jan Rustem.
