Clare Southern

1860-1940 Australia/Heidelberg school

 

Brief Biography-Clara Southern was an Australian painter who studied under Frederick McCubbin and George Frederick Folingsby. She was associated with Tom Roberts and the Heidelberg School of Artists and painted mainly en plein air. She formed a group of young artists at Warrandyte, later becoming the first female Australian Artists Association member. The National Gallery of Victoria holds many of her paintings.
