Brief Biography-Adrian Scott Stokes was born in Southport in 1854. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools, followed by a stay in France, where Bastien-Lepage mainly influenced him with en plein air painting. The Pre-Raphaelites also impressed him. He regularly visited the Skagen Painters colony in Denmark with Marianne, his wife. They retired to Cornwall, where Adrian was President of the Saint Ives Society of Arts. He was RA in 1919. Marianne was also a successful artist. |
