Abraham Storck (Sturck)
1644-1708 Netherlands/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-The brothers Abraham Storck and Jacobus Storck (1641-1688) were renowned marine painters of the Rhine and Amsterdam. Johannes, the oldest brother, is less known. There is no record of who their masters were; however, their painter father, Jan Jansz Sturck, possibly instructed all three sons.
Willem van de Velde the Younger and Ludolf Backhuysen influenced the brothers greatly. Jacobus paid more attention to detail in architecture and water surfaces; however, Abraham became the more prominent painter of their time. Jacobus worked in the studio of Abraham. |
