Johan Frederik (Frits) Thaulow

1847-1906 Norway/Impressionism-Realism- en plein air

 

Brief Biography-Johan Frederik (Frits) Thaulow was born in Christiania in 1847. He studied at the Copenhagen Academy of Art and the Baden School of Art under Hans Gude. In 1875 he made his way to Paris but was happier painting around France in various settings until 1879. He spent the following year in Skagen before moving to Norway, where he found much success. Finally, in 1892 he settled in France, moving from town to town, attaining fresh stimuli. He died in the Dutch village of Volendam in 1906. The Legion of Honour was one of many awards Thaulow received throughout his career.
