Willem van der Hagen

Died 1745 Dutch-Settled in Ireland-Cork/Landscapes

 

Brief Biography-Willem van der Hagen was born in the Hague; the date is unknown. Before settling in Ireland, he painted in Europe and England and was one of Ireland’s first noted landscape painters, including William Ashford and Thomas Roberts. Many of his works were capriccio landscapes; however, Carton House Kildare is one of his most spectacular views. He died in 1745.
