Claude Joseph Vernet

Brief Biography-Claude Vernet was strongly influenced by the works of Claude Lorrain when he worked in Rome; other influences were Salvator Rosa and Hubert Robert. His work mainly consisted of landscapes and seaports. Louis XV commissioned a series of seaport paintings, now on view in the Louvre. His son Carle and his grandson Horace were to become renowned painters in their time. |
