Adam Willaerts

1577-1664 Netherlands/Dutch Golden Age

 

Brief Biography-Adam Willaerts was born in Antwerp in 1577 and painted sea views, coastal scenes, and battles. He settled in Utrecht in 1600 and entered the Guild of Saint Luke in 1611, becoming Dean in 1620. His son Abraham, born in 1613, was also a successful painter. He was a disciple of Simon Vouet and worked in the service of Prince Maurice in Brussels.
