Franciszek Żmurko

1859-1910 Ukraine-Poland/Academicism

 

Brief Biography-Franciszek Żmurko was born in Lviv in 1859, where he learned to draw as a boy. He later went to Krakow and became a disciple of Jan Matejko at the School of Fine Arts. After this, he spent time in Rome and Vienna before studying in Munich under Alexander von Wagner, and he entered the Munich Kunstverein. He gained an esteemed reputation for his female portraiture. Żmurko Eventually settled in Warsaw, where he died in 1910.
