Anders Leonard Zorn
1860-1920 Sweden/Realism-Impressionism
|
Brief Biography-Anders Leonard (Leonhard) Zorn was born in Mora, Sweden in 1860. He entered the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1875 and left in 1881. He quickly achieved success, primarily with his portraiture, and he travelled widely, gaining prestigious commissions such as portraits of Swedish nobility and three American Presidents. In addition, Zorn became noted for his radiant paintings of nude women and exceptional portrayals of water surfaces. In 1920 he established the Bellman Literature Prize with his wife, Emma. They retired to a cottage called ZorngÄrden in Mora, which was left to the State and is a present-day museum. |
